What Is PRP?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy is a form of regenerative medicine that magnifies your own blood's powers of rejuvenation. PRP has been used for years to promote the healing of tendons, ligaments, and muscles. Now, cutting-edge cosmetic surgeons are increasingly using PRP to enhance the aesthetic results of cosmetic procedures.

Dr. Rassael at Millennium Medical, which serves Chevy Chase, MD, and the greater Washington, D.C., area, is among those at the forefront of this innovative technique that can enhance aesthetic outcomes.

First, he creates a concentration of a patient's own platelets–their own personal fountain of youth. From there, the serum can be injected or applied topically to improve the results of their aesthetic treatments. PRP can be used to help create a smoother, more youthful complexion or enhance hair growth.

What Does PRP Cost?

PRP treatments start at $1,200 for a single session at Millennium Medical in Chevy Chase, however, the cost of each session is lower when multiple sessions are purchased.

How We Create Your Unique Serum of Platelets & Growth Factors

The beauty of PRP therapy is that Dr. Rassael is able to capture your body's own healing properties and concentrate them to create a unique, biocompatible serum that is rich with proteins and growth factors. He can then apply this platelet-rich concentration precisely where it is needed for optimum rejuvenation.

To create the platelet-rich plasma, a blood sample will be taken and then placed in a centrifuge, which rapidly spins it and separates the components of the blood, concentrating them in the plasma. This concentrated solution can then be applied topically or with an injection into the target area.

While the effectiveness of the treatment is still being studied, the risks associated with injecting it are minimal since the serum is created using a patient's own blood and platelets. Furthermore, PRP has been cleared by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for off-label use, which is common in the medical industry. About half of all prescriptions are written for off-label use.
